Bill Seymour's Bio

Bill Seymour is a journalist and writer based in Connecticut and Rhode Island where he writes for newspapers and magazines.

 

He also has been a journalist at several other newspapers in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. 

His freelance stories have appeared in The Catholic Transcript, The Quill magazine, MOVE magazine, The New York Times, The Associated Press, The Hartford Courant, Hearst Media in Connecticut, The Society of Professional Journalists Ethics Report, The Waterbury Republican-American and The Connecticut Mirror.

 

Story topics varied from feature and news to op-eds and column writing. He has participated in creating various television news and feature stories.

 

In addition,  as a director on the Harvard Kennedy School New England Alumni Association, he oversees the Contemporary Issues in the Media series on topics related to trends in journalism and First Amendment issues. He co-sponsors the program with the Harvard Law School Association of Massachusetts. 

 

His recent published work includes:

Awards from Rhode Island Press Association include stories on Neighborhood Coverage, Unique/Most Unexpected Story, News/Editorial Columnist, Spot News Story, Education Story,  Magazine Feature Story In Depth, Sports Feature Story and Food and Dining.

 

He is an adjunct professor at universities and colleges in Connecticut and Rhode Island. He also had a long career in government public policy and political communications. He has won numerous awards for public policy advocacy, including: 

  • PACE Award from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators for a teen safe driving video contest,.
  • Gold Award from the Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for the five-year sustained project to recruit high schools and students statewide to participate in the teen-safe driving contest as well as numerous others for this teen safe driving awareness campaign.
  • Donate Life Award for creating the first collaborative of major transplant hospitals to fund a TV marketing campaign for organ and tissue donors.
  • The Governor’s Service Award for the development of the Department of Motor Vehicles website for customer service.

Bill's undergraduate years were spent at Southern Connecticut State University and he later earned a master's degree from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
